Flamenco,
bullfighting, whitewashed villages and blazing sun: Andalucía is the
source of these popular images of Spanish culture. It also hosts festivales,
ferias and carnavales that are world-famous for their
extravagence, particularly Semana Santa at Easter. The Spanish love
their ferias and each little village celebrates their own feria once a
year and is very proud of welcoming and spoiling visitors. As Spanish
life takes part on the street everyone can participate in sevillanas and
cheerful singing. The
guardian of Andalucian culture and arguably Spain’s most charming and
romantic city, Sevilla cannot be missed. Only a one-hour drive from Los
Cerrillares, a day-trip can be made to visit the stunning historical
sites – the famous Cathedral, the Plaza de España and Alcazar, to
name just a few – or to take in some tapas, flamenco or bullfighting,
which are at their best in Sevilla. Restaurant bookings can be made for
you if necessary, and English-speaking guides can be organised. One
hour in the opposite direction lies Cordoba. Once the hub of the Moorish
empire, nowhere are Spain’s Islamic, Jewish and Catholic heritages so
visibly intermixed. Its famed La Mezquita is considered one of the most
important Islamic monuments in the Western world. |
