Finca
Los
Cerrillares is located in the nature conservation area Sierra Norte de
Sevilla, between Andalucía´s capital, Sevilla, and the Moorish city of
Cordoba. These cities, and Andalucía generally, are famous for their cultural
richness and many historical sights. However, Andalucía boasts another
important, but as yet largely undiscovered, attraction: the intense natural
beauty of the land, the diversity of its flora and fauna and the potential it
holds for an endless variety of outdoor pursuits or simply for communing with
nature in a beautiful, tranquil and completely relaxing environment.
Sierra
Norte de Sevilla is a stunning highland covered with forests of cork-oak trees,
century-old olive plantations and grazing land, and is home to the famous
black Iberian pig. Finca Los Cerrillares covers 8 km2 of this area.
To the north the estate is bordered by the large water reservoir El Aguila, to
the east by the river Retortillo, and to the south and west by traditional
agricultural farms and ranches. Los
Cerrillares is part working farm, with managed herds of sheep, game deer and
Iberian black boar, 200 bee hives, and a stable of pure-bred Arabian and
Andalucian horses as well as wild-born horses from the Coto Doñana. Most of
the estate, however, is comprised of unspoilt valleys and ravines with hidden
paths that allow the wanderer, whether on foot or horseback, to view the
wildlife in its natural habitat. The estate is enclosed by 18 km-long game
fences, ensuring privacy and safety, that encompass 50 hectares of ancient
olive plantations, 40 hectares of reforestation area and 180 hectares of
grazing land hidden in the cork and stone oak forests. The estate boasts 25
kms of cycling tours for all levels, approximately 180-km foot and bridle
paths, and the nearest neighbour is 5 kms away. Amble in total tranquility
amongst the brilliantly coloured wildflowers, stumble upon the occasional red
deer or wild boar, spot more than 200 species of different birdlife, or make
your way to your favourite secluded
viewpoint – perhaps overlooking the lake and rolling hills – and spend a
couple of hours simply soaking in the wonderful colours, sounds and smells of
the surroundings. Los
Cerrillares takes its name from the word cerril, which means "hilly"
and in winter and spring tiny little rivers appear in the hollow of the valley,
often creating water reservoirs. These are the places to spot deer, wild boar
and other native fauna. In spring and summer the bushes and wildflowers are
used by the farm bees to produce the very special mil flor (thousand blossom)
honey. The
estate is situated 300 m above sea level. The climate is subtropical and in
summer there is a max. temperature of 32º C - 40º C. In winter there may be
hours of frost at night. From March to June and September to October you will
usually awake in the morning to a clear blue sky and enjoy warm sunshine
throughout the day. The temperatures are pleasant and all you need in summer
is a t-shirt, shorts and sports gear. In the winter months it is a good idea
to bring warm jumpers as there might be the occasional rainy day, providing
the perfect excuse to curl up in front of the huge log fire, reading or
chatting with other guests in the main house. Most
of the land in this region is owned by other private estates and is generally
inaccessible to tourists and holidaymakers. So however you choose to spend you
time at Los Cerrillares, the estate offers a genuinely unique opportunity to
experience Andalucía´s natural treasures.
